Both review pull requests. One reads the diff. The other runs the code.
CodeRabbit is a fast AI reviewer. Codeward boots a sandbox, runs real analysis tools, and verifies its fixes before it suggests them.
Unlike traditional AI review tools that spam pull requests with unverified comments, Codeward executes real tests inside isolated Firecracker microVMs before opening a fix. Only verified, non-breaking code reaches your repository (86.3% merge acceptance rate).
Use CodeRabbit if you want an AI to summarize every PR and leave line-by-line feedback, and you already have separate tools for security and tech debt. Use Codeward if you want a PR check that executes code in an isolated sandbox, scores 122 debt, security and compliance checks, and can block a merge on a confirmed critical finding.

CodeRabbit is the more mature product for pure PR conversation. It supports GitHub and GitLab, learns your team's preferences, and generates tests and docstrings. If your pain is slow human review, it addresses that well.
Codeward targets a different pain: code that *looks* fine in a diff but fails when run, or debt that never shows up in a single PR. Because it executes code and runs tools in a sandbox, it can catch runtime and flaky-test failures a diff-only reviewer can only guess at.
Pick by problem: faster reviews of diffs, or a gate that checks what actually happens when the code runs.
CodeRabbit: free for open-source repos; paid plans from about $24 per developer per month on annual billing, with higher tiers above that and usage-based overage per reviewed file. Codeward: open source and self-hostable at no license cost; managed cloud pricing, see codeward.cloud.
If you only want AI summaries and comments on PRs, CodeRabbit does that well. If you also want sandbox execution, security and debt checks, and merge gating, Codeward covers more of that ground. Some teams run both.
Yes. Codeward installs as a GitHub App and clones the repo into an ephemeral sandbox so it can parse the full AST. GitLab and Bitbucket are on the roadmap.
Both take security seriously. CodeRabbit publishes SOC 2 Type II. Codeward runs untrusted PR code only inside ephemeral sandboxes that are destroyed after each run, and you can self-host the whole stack.
